Lourdes - The City of Miracles in France

Spiritual Director- Father Reno Muscat

Sunday 26th September

We meet at the airport at 9.30am to leave on a Rynair direct flight to Toulouse at 11.35am arriving at 2.00pm. From here we will find a coach waiting for us for some site-seeing at the center of Toulouse. We drive to Lourdes to go to the hotel, check in and eat dinner together.

Monday 27th September

We need to meet early today as mass in Maltese at the Grotto of Massabielle is at 6.30am. The Grotto is the site where Bernadette Soubirous has witnessed the 18 apparitions of the Virgin in 1858. After mass we will have breakfast and we go directly for a Via Sagra. Following that we visit the three Basilicas of the Sanctuary. Our tour will take us to other places of interest in Lourdes, including the Boly mill where Bernardette was born on 7 January 1844, and where she lived for 10 years. We will also visit Le Cachot – an abandoned prison where Bernardette and her family lived at the time of the apparitions, and the Parish Church dedicated to the Heart of Jesus where we see the place where Bernardette was baptized. This church was closed for refurbishing in 2020 if it is still closed we will just see the facade.

After lunch we go to Gavarnie, a picturesque village in the mountains located 32 miles away from Lourdes and 1,360 metres above sea level in the Hautes-Pyrenees region. On our way, we will stop on Bridge du Napoleon to admire
the incredible view. In summer it is popular for those who practice bungee jumping. Only around 180 people live in Gavarnie and the main attraction of this place is the 422-metre high waterfall which is the start of the Gave river which passes through the Massabielle Cave. Dinner at the hotel.

Tuesday 28th September

After breakfast, we celebrate mass to thank God for all He has done for us in our lives and for this wonderful experience. Today we have a full day excursion to Artouste. A truly relaxing morning on the Pyrenees Mountains. It reaches its peak when we climb a 1920 meter high cable car from where we board the petite train that takes us around the mountains that separate France from Spain (cable car and petite train extra charge). In the afternoon we go to El Portalet, a small village in Spain where you can do some shopping before returning to the hotel for dinner.
